The Openwork Foundation announces two new national charity partners
The Openwork Foundation has named Cruse Bereavement Care and Dementia UK as its two national charity partners for the next three years. The Foundation has pledged an annual grant of £50,000 to each charity.
Cruse Bereavement Care provides support to anyone affected by bereavement through their telephone helpline, online and individual or group support services. They will use the grant to expand their specialist counselling services and support specifically for children and young people throughout the UK, who have had a bereavement.
Dementia UK is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting families affected by dementia through dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. The Admiral Nurses work in a range of settings including out in the community, care homes, hospitals, hospices and on the charity’s Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline – a national service for anyone affected by dementia. They will use the grant to fully fund one of the full-time Helpline Admiral Nurses to help maintain this service.
The Openwork Foundation celebrates 40 years of working with charities across the UK and abroad this year and is funded and supported by advisers, firms, and colleagues in The Openwork Partnership, including 2plan wealth management, Owl Financial and Omnis Investments. In recent years it has primarily supported children and young people through its grant programmes and the partnership with Dementia UK recognises a chance to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people of all ages.
Commenting, Sam Tesch, Head of The Openwork Foundation, says: “Cruse Bereavement Care and Dementia UK offer such valuable support to so many people in our communities, giving guidance to enable them to develop their resilience and lead fulfilling and confident lives. We are delighted to be working with both charities for the next three years – helping more vulnerable children, young people and adults”.
Charlene Vallory, Director of Fundraising and Income Generation at Cruse Bereavement Care, said: “This is a wonderful commitment from The Openwork Foundation. The funds granted are vital to enable us to grow our services and ensure we are accessible to as many children and young people as possible. We would like to thank everyone at The Openwork Foundation for their support and we look forward to building our partnership with them over the coming years.”
Dr Hilda Hayo, CEO and Chief Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK, said: “Families with dementia have been adversely affected by lockdown for just over a year now. Care home visiting restrictions, the closure of support and respite services, and the resulting social isolation and loneliness, has disproportionately affected people living with dementia and their family carers. The money granted from The Openwork Foundation is invaluable to Dementia UK as it will enable us to provide dementia specialist Admiral Nurses to the families that need help the most.”
